Contract
Refurbishment of Queensbridge School and New Build Professional Development Center

Works
The refurbishment of a Grade II Listed Victorian School and new build Professional Development Centre. The Professional Development Centre consisted of a number of conference rooms and training facilities, available for rent to local businesses within the London Borough of Hackney.

The build consisted of a Reinforced Concrete structure situated on a tight corner site. The scheme included innovative sustainability functions such as Passivent Ventilation and high thermal resistance. The external elevations, in stark contrast to the yellow brick facade of the existing school, consisted of red terracotta tiling, eternit panels, zinc cladding and curtain walling. The detailing between the various external elements were carefully detailed and constructed to allow for the difference in thermal movement.

During the works, the school was in continuous occupation so we placed secure, solid, screens that separated the areas of our compound and working area’s with those areas of the occupied school. Where we had to decant certain areas to facilitate the new build, this was done after careful consultation with the school.
